What Will You Learn in the Accounting Diploma Course?

While studying your Diploma of Accounting, you will learn essential skills such as how to prepare tax returns for individuals.  You will also discover how to implement internal control processes, manage budgets and forecasts, prepare financial reports for corporate entities and provide financial and business performance information.

This Diploma of Accounting course can be used to fulfill the ‘Primary Qualification’ requirements for Tax Agent registration in Australia! It may also be used to fulfill many of the educational requirements for BAS Agent registration (see Certification Requirements at the bottom of the page for more information).

Our Diploma of Accounting course will help you develop a broad range of accounting skills integral to the operation of Australian businesses, governments and charities.  These skills are valued by prospective employers across all industry sectors and can be used in a huge range of professional accounting roles.

Course Outline & Structure

The FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting is a nationally recognised and accredited Australian accounting course.  It is ideal if you are seeking Tax/BAS agent registration and/or wish to enhance your skills and knowledge to take on more senior roles in accountancy.

Nominal Hours: The Diploma of Accounting course has a nominal study load of 430 hours. This equals approximately 8.5 hours per week over 12 months.

Assessment Methods: The Diploma of Accounting is assessed using written questions, problem solving in scenarios or simulated activities, case studies and by gathering & creating documents.

FNS50210 Course Units

The FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting is comprised of 9 units – 6 core units and 3 elective units.  Our Diploma of Accounting elective units have been carefully chosen to ensure they meet the needs of a wide range of jobs requiring accounting skills.

Core Units include (6 total):

FNSACC501A – Provide financial and business performance information
FNSACC502B – Prepare legally compliant tax returns for Individuals
FNSACC503A – Manage budgets and forecasts
FNSACC504A – Prepare financial reports for corporate entities
FNSACC506A – Implement and maintain internal control procedures
FNSACC507A – Provide management accounting information

Electives (complete 3 of 3):

FNSACC405A – Maintain inventory records
BSBITU402A – Develop and use complex spreadsheets
FNSBKG405A – Establish and maintain a payroll system

The Diploma of Accounting shares some units with the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and Certificate IV in Accounting courses. If you hold either of these qualifications, you may be able to gain credit for units you have already completed and reduce your study load!

Entry Requirements

To enter the FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting course you must already hold the 9 core units from the FNS10 Certificate IV in Accounting or the FNS04 Certificate IV in Accounting. If you do not currently hold the prerequisites, Inspire Education offers a bridging course which will allow you to complete those 9 units as part of your Diploma program (see Bridging Course details below).

It is also preferred that students:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English and Maths, or equivalent)
  • Have basic computer skills preferably with Microsoft Word and Excel

Qualification Pathways

After completing your Diploma of Accounting course, you can continue your studies with the FNS60210 Advanced Diploma of Accounting. The advanced diploma can lead to career outcomes such as financial accountant, taxation accountant or management accountant. You may be able to use the advanced diploma as an entry path into a Bachelor of Accounting qualification (or other business related disciplines).

Once enrolled in this course you may also consider additional training to complement your accounting skills:

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment – to become an accounting trainer or enhance your workplace training skills.
Certificate IV in Bookkeeping – to develop additional skills to use in bookkeeping roles.
Certificate IV in Business Administration – to enhance your general business administration skills.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available to any learner who can provide evidence of competency for the units offered within the qualification. See the RPL Guide for more information on this process and how to apply.

Certification Requirements

This Diploma of Accounting course is an approved course you can use to fulfill the ‘Primary Qualification’ requirements for Tax Agent registration (see TASA 2009, schedule 2, part 2, item 203).

You can also use this qualification to fulfill the training requirements for BAS agent registration provided you have also completed the unit “FNSBKG404A – Carry out Business Activity and Installment Activity Statement tasks” (or equivalent). This unit is commonly included in Certificate IV in Bookkeeping/Accounting qualifications, and is part of the Certificate IV in Accounting bridging course offered by Inspire Education.

Diploma of Accounting Bridging Course

To help you gain entry to the Diploma of Accounting and earn the qualification you need, Inspire Education has developed a fast-track bridging course with the Certificate IV in Accounting core units. After completing this bridging course, you will be awarded a statement of attainment for these 9 units.

Duration: You’ll have an additional 6 months to complete these units, bringing your total maximum course duration to 18 months.

Nominal Hours: The prerequisite units have a nominal completion time of 490 hours. This equals and expected study load of approximately 19 hours per week over 6 months.
